The Austin City Council is voting this week on awarding a $700K contract to redesign the city’s Web site. Is a new website design important enough to spend $700K? Really? Do you think any of the local Austin businesses that are laying off 100’s of people would spend this much discretionary money on this? Really?
The council needs to operate more like a local business. It’s time to tighten the belt. There is no need or ROI that I can think of that would justify this expense. This project is not a need. It is a want, and a want that is a very low priority. I’m surprised that would even make a council agenda.
The current website is fine for now. This expense can easily be deferred until the economic condition improves. I’ve have seen some very frivolous projects approved in the last 60 days, but this is the winner thus far. If the council approves this, it confirms my belief that the council has lost touch with the real world. Really!!!!
